Last Batch of Cache / Network Cards

Some time ago, I purchased the last batch of Cachecards from the original manufacturer Silicon Dust.
These are now virtually all gone, so if you ever planned to network your TiVo, I literally have just a few remaining!

January 2013

January marks the 2nd anniversary since we started to implement an alternative guide source after the TiVo announcement that it was ceasing the official service.

I would like to personally thank all those involved with the AltEPG project. Many man hours have contributed to make the project what it is today, which I believe is a superior service to what we had previously!

A special thank you goes out to Brian (millsb) for his on-going support on the forums and back-end systems.
In the last 12 months, Brian has worked wonders with the latest versions of the AltEPG image, streamlining the automated networking functionality which makes upgrading your TiVo to a networked system a simple Plug 'n' Play solution.
Brian has also vastly improved the AltEPG website allowing user and administrator management of their accounts and TiVo installed software.

Thanks also go out to Mike (MrTickle) for heading the TV Guide team and his relentless support of all existing AltEPG TiVo users maintaining the EPG data. If its been a while since you visited the forums, why not pay a visit, even if its just to say thanks, its easy to forget how much work goes into making sure your TiVo still has EPG every morning and still records that show you didn't want to miss!

Automated collation of the electronic programme guide data can only go so far. A great deal of time is spent making adjustments to that data to improve it before it lands on your TiVo. If you have some spare time you can dedicate to helping , please contact MrTickle at the forum below:

The latest image due to be made available is version: AltEPG 1.0d
This image contains all the refinements of the previous images (including automatic network card configuration and DHCP support) along with upgraded versions of the most popular hacks.

Customers that are on at least AltEPG 1.0c will now be able to upgrade through the system (like the old days even though TiVo never updated after base OS 2.5.5).

AltEPG 1.01b1 image in testing

Brian has done some more impressive work on the latest TiVo image (currently in testing), the auto detection routines to load the relevant NIC installed in the TiVo have been refined and yet more improvements have been added, including the ability to change the NIC configuration, IP / Router addresses all from within the User Interface!
More details of the changes and improvements will be listed soon.

IDE to SATA converter boards back in stock

There has been a distinct shortage of these boards recently. These boards are one of the few that work with the TiVo and crucial to allow you to use a SATA drive instead of a PATA IDE.

Image updates and important Dial-Up information

The current image version (0.94c) includes the updated Dial-Up Numbers (see 01274 removal below) and the DeferCall control which enables the user to apply restrictions on the days and times the TiVo is allowed to use the phone line.

The 01274 number is being decommissioned. Dial-Up users should switch to the geographical 0161 number or one of the 0845 locall numbers if you are still using this for access! I have sent a system message out today (5th July) through the AltEPG system, so your TiVo should receive the same instruction.

As always, the latest AltEPG image is supplied on the hard disk upgrades supplied by tivoland.com and will eventually be added to the free AltEPG ISO for
end users that wish to attempt their own upgrades.

Alpha Testing Continues

We are continually tweaking the server end of the AltEPG project and making improvements to the TiVo Hard Disk image. The current image version (0.94b) now allows Guided Setup to be aborted via remote control and we are testing (Dial-Up) dialling preferences to control the days and times that TiVo is allowed to use the phone line. TiVo Inc. Ceases UK Server Access

As planned, TiVo Inc. cut the phone line for UK TiVo's in June.
TiVo did not shut off users accounts prior to cutting the phone lines which enables users to continue using the extra weeks of guide data they would have received prior to the shut off.

A surge of users registering for AltEPG was correctly anticipated.

Alpha Testing Commences

Having requested Alpha testers (those with spare TiVo's) to help our with some testing, this phase has begun.

The core objectives of the project initially is to provide users with the ability to go receiving guide data after June 1st, so that core functionality like Season Passes and Wish-Lists are still usable. We will continue to tweak and poke the system going forward.

Alternative EPG Project Progressing

The AltEPG team gave been busy working on getting the server up and running.
We are immensely grateful for the assistance and advice from the Oz team who have had many years experience running similar a similar project.

Our first connection pictures (can be seen here) bought a satisfying realisation to this project!
Initial tests were done with v3.0 TiVo OS, hence the different colours, familiar v2.5 TiVo OS pictures follow later in the thread.

TiVo Announces Suspension of Service

We were very disappointed to hear the news from TiVo Inc. that they will be stopping the official EPG service in June 2011.

Many keen UK TiVo users will be left out in the cold by this decision since Cable availability is still severely lacking in many area’s of the UK!
