A brief description of the benefits of the TiVoland AltEPG image:
- Zero configuration, will work with a TurboNet or a Cachecard without additional configuration.
- Supports DHCP.
- Pre-configured with many of the useful tools/hacks.
- DeferCall control the days of the week and the time Dial-Up is allowed to use the phone line.
- Var & Hack now individual partitions.
- Self healing repair and restoration of "/var" and "/hack" partitions.
- Extended live tv buffer of 180 mins.
- Without a network card installed, the image will default to dial-up, without any NIC changes.
- With a network card installed, modem usage can be forced by simply adding a pause to the "Dial Prefix".
- Serial PPP (PPPonDSS) connection for daily calls can be configured.
- Enable / Disable Mode Zero via remote control.
- Enable / Disable TV incompatibility (aka the philips teletext bug issue) via remote control.
- Fixes issue with ISP's that use Transparent Proxies.
- Kickstart (remote control) enabled features like Mode Zero.
- Plus a load of other enhancements & fixes.
For users that are not confident attempting to build their own HDD's or simply prefer not to tinker, pre-configured hard disk's are available.
Kickstart Instructions
There are a number of configurable options that are user selectable during the boot process.
These options are selected using a special Remote code, called a Kickstart code (see the table below).
The options we have added are to enable/disable Mode Zero and the TiVo’s teletext features, plus Guided Setup Abort.
When Powering up the TiVo (from the mains), you need to press and hold the “Pause” button on the TiVo’s remote control, so the LED on the remote is constantly flashing and sending a signal. A couple of seconds after the “Powering Up” screen appears on the TV, you should see both LED’s on the front of the TiVo lite up an Amber colour.
Once both TiVo LED’s have both lit up Amber, you can let go of the “Pause” button and you have several seconds to key in the code sequence (from the table below). Simple press the numeric digits for the code you wish to use, one after the other, the TiVo will then continue to boot up. If you take too long to enter the code sequence, the TiVo will continue with its boot process also!
WARNING:
If you miss the opportunity to enter the code sequence and the TiVo carries on with its boot process, you must let it carry on booting, don’t power off the TiVo prematurely. The TiVo has a built in repair process that it invokes if it detects a failed boot and power cycling the TiVo before the TiVo Menu’s are available can cause this to happen!
Also, take care entering the Kickstart codes. There are other standard built-in Kickstart codes that you do not want to enter inadvertently (e.g. 52 is Emergency Re-install).
